This piece is designed by Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) who was an internationally recognized Danish designer. Together with her husband Jørgen, their first furniture designs were exhibited while still students at the Arts and Crafts School in Copenhagen. They quickly established their own design studio and started to work with wicker in cooperation with the renowned wicker worker R. Wengler in 1950. This cooperation was the beginning of a renewed status for wicker furniture in interior design.
Ditzel’s experimental approach to materials resulted in multiple innovative furniture among these the famous Hanging Egg Chair in rattan.
