    Our top priority is to produce quality furniture that can last for generations and eliminate the need for frequent replacements. Due to this philosophy, the materials we use in the production of each piece of furniture must be durable and robust.

    Outdoor teak furniture

    Teak wood is known for its high strength and durability. Due to its natural oil content, the wood is very durable, resistant to wind and weather, and is not attacked by insects and rot. At Sika-Design, we recommend leaving the surface untreated to achieve a beautiful silver-gray color.

    If you choose to use oil to preserve the brown color, you risk trapping fungal spores under the oil and this is therefore not recommended. Instead we recommend using soap flakes and water for ongoing maintenance and cleaning. After this treatment, the wood will acquire a brownish color that will gradually disappear again. The recipe and procedure can be found in the guide below. For general wiping, use a damp cloth, wrung out in a mild mixture of sulfur and water.

    Cleaning of surfaces

    When teak furniture is left outdoors, it is not only exposed to wind and weather, but also to mold spores that are found everywhere in nature; in the air, the soil and on organic material such as leaves. As a result, many people experience mold and discoloration on the surface of their teak furniture.

    Mold does not pose a health issue outdoors, but over time it might give the furniture a dark moldy, and in the worst case slimy, surface that can be difficult to remove. Cleaning is therefore a necessity to maintain a beautiful surface.

    Maintenance with soap flakes

    At Sika-Design we recommend regular maintenance with soap flakes. Make a large batch of soap flake-mixture and store it in a bucket to easily maintain your teak furniture. After the soap flakes treatment, the wood will acquire a brownish color that will gradually disappear again when exposed to rain and sun.

    Rattan furniture

    Rattan furniture is best suited for indoor use but in warm and dry climates it can also be used for covered outdoor areas such as verandas, conservatories and covered terraces, but should not be exposed to rain or humid environments such as pool areas, as water and moisture will shorten the life of the furniture.

    If you take good care of your rattan furniture, it is capable of lasting for generations. To extend the life of our furniture, we have repair videos available that allow our customers to carry out simple repairs themselves, such as a loose binding. As rattan is a solid material, rattan furniture is virtually impossible to wear out. We therefore hope that these cosmetic repairs can prolong the enjoyment of our furniture and delay the need for replacement. The repair videos can be viewed and downloaded here.

    Cleaning of surfaces

    One of the great advantages of rattan is that it requires minimal maintenance. The material is naturally dirt-repellent and retains its strength and beauty for many years without the need for special treatment.

    For daily cleaning, you can wipe the furniture with a hard wrung cloth to remove dust and dirt. It is recommended to avoid excessive use of water, as the material can absorb it, which will weaken the fibers over time. You can also vacuum the furniture with a soft brush to remove dust from the woven details.

    Handwoven outdoor furniture

    Our exterior furniture is made of durable and weather-resistant materials, making it ideal for a changing climate. The furniture is constructed with an aluminum frame that is hand-woven with ArtFibre®, an artificial wicker material made from dyed hard-wearing polyethylene. This fiber has a strong structure that allows it to maintain its shape for years.

    Cleaning of surfaces

    Our exterior furniture is easy to clean and requires no maintenance. To keep the furniture neat, it can be washed using a soft brush, lukewarm water and mild soap. It is important to rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue. For stubborn dirt or algae, the furniture can be cleaned using a pressure washer. To prevent buildup of dirt, we recommend cleaning the furniture annually.

    Cushions

    Our cushions are designed to fit perfectly into each piece of furniture and add extra comfort. The quality of good craftsmanship is felt in our cushions, where we draw on extensive experience and expertise when deciding on the shape and characteristics of each cushion.

    The fabrics you find in our fabric collections are carefully selected, and we only present quality fabrics with great durability and high lightfastness. In addition, the foam in our cushions is of high quality, which ensures that the cushions retain their shape and create optimal comfort.

    Maintenance of outdoor cushions

    Outdoor cushions are more exposed to the weather and organic material. Mold does not grow on synthetic textiles, but can grow on deposits of organic material that settle on the fabric, such as resin, pollen, etc. Therefore, we recommend brushing the furniture regularly.

    Outdoor cushions can withstand rain, but should be protected from prolonged moisture. Therefore, please bring your cushions inside during rainy periods or use a furniture cover, which also has the advantage of protecting the furniture from dirt.     The covers for our outdoor cushions can be washed in the washing machine on a gentle program at 30 °C. They should be spun at low speed and air dried - do not tumble dry.

    Maintenance of indoor cushions

    Indoor cushions require regular vacuuming to remove dust and dirt. Back cushions can also be shaken or tapped lightly to maintain their fullness.

    The covers for our indoor cushions can be washed in the washing machine on a gentle cycle at 30°C. They should be spun at low speed and air dried – do not tumble dry.
