The Rita dining chair was designed by Nanna Ditzel in 1965. The unconventional legs of the sculptural chair enable it to stand on all outdoor surfaces without the legs digging into the ground.
The Rita Exterior dining chair is handcrafted in aluminum and ArtFibre making it resistant to all weather types. The aluminum frame is carefully handpainted to resemble the cozy look of rattan.
For 2025, we are excited to present our popular outdoor bistro furniture in new colors and patterns. The furniture is part of our Alu-Affäire collection that presents a selection of charming bistro furniture in our own classical designs dating back to the 1950s.
The furniture in this collection is handcrafted in aluminum and ArtFibre, making it resistant to all weather types.
The Tobias teak table was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1935. The table was designed for wholesaler Helge Wandel's villa which was designed by Arne Jacobsen in the early 1930s.
The Funky café table from 1996 and Yamakawa lampshades from 1998 are designed by Yuzuru Yamakawa (1933-2012) who was known for his great passion for rattan. Yamakawa created many of his furniture on the basis of an open-lattice structure, as known from the Eiffel Tower, making it possible to create great strength in lightweight constructions. The frame of the Funky table and Yamakawa lampshades are made of steel that has been hand-woven with Indonesian rattan.
Sika-Design is a Danish family company from 1942. With a passion for rattan, we manufacture timeless furniture in both our own designs and in designs by some of the world’s greatest architects.
Rattan is often confused with bamboo, but unlike hollow bamboo, rattan is a solid material. This makes rattan highly bendable and can therefore be transformed into the most amazing shapes.
The fact that rattan is a solid material makes rattan furniture very durable and able to last for generations.
Arne Jacobsen, Nanna & Jørgen Ditzel, R. Wengler, Franco Albini & Franca Helg, Viggo Boesen and Tove Kindt-Larsen were all pioneers of their time. They broke new ground when they made experimental shapes of the sturdy material rattan and wicker, creating sculptural and timeless furniture design icons.
With great respect and admiration for the original designs and in close collaboration with the descendants, we are at Sika-Design proud to have acquired the rights for these iconic designs.
Since 1942, the natural material rattan has been the cornerstone of Sika-Design. Our mission is to produce furniture from materials that have the least possible impact on the environment, and that our customers can, and want to keep, for many years. Sustainability is therefore woven into our DNA, and green transitioning has become a fixed focal point at Sika-Design.
Consideration for the environment affects which items are put into production, our choice of materials, how they are processed, and how the furniture is packaged and transported.
