The Luella mirror is designed by Franco Albini & Franca Helg and was originally produced in Italy during the 1950s. The combination of rattan and the curved geometric pattern makes the Luella mirror as decorative as it is functional. The Italian duo Franco Albini and Franca Helg were renowned architects and had their heyday in the 1950s, producing a wide range of renowned furniture designs as well as architectural works and properties.
The Luella Mirror is part of Sika-Design's ICONS collection which represents designer furniture by some of the world’s greatest designer and architects. These include current as well as older iconic designers and architects. When acquiring rights to old iconic pieces we work closely with the descendants to ensure the design and quality of the furniture.
The Luella Mirror is handmade from sustainable Indonesian rattan by skilled wicker makers. Rattan is extremely flexible and when it gets steamed it can be formed by hand, using old traditional manufacturing techniques and a few simple tools. Rattan is the most sustainable material for furniture manufacturing as it regenerates in the span of 5-7 years. Rattan comes in 600 different variants, and at Sika-Design we only use the two best qualities called Tohiti and Manau.

This item is handcrafted in rattan, which is a climbing plant that grows like lianas on the trees in the Indonesian rainforest. Rattan is often confused with bamboo, but unlike hollow bamboo, rattan is a solid material. This makes rattan products very durable and almost impossible to wear out.
When steamed for 10-15 minutes, rattan can be formed by hand using old traditional manufacturing techniques and a few simple tools. Rattan comes in 600 different variants and at Sika-Design we only use the two best qualities called Tohiti and Manau. Read more about rattan here.
MAINTENANCE Rattan requires no maintenance but can be wiped with a lightly dampened cloth if needed.
