    Paris is an iconic lounge chair designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1929. Paris was the first chair designed by the famous Arne Jacobsen, even before he graduated as an architect. The iconic lounge chair is revolutionary for the history of wicker furniture. The lounge chair is part of Sika-Design's exclusive ICONS collection which represents design furniture designed by renowned designers and architects. Paris is handmade in sustainable Indonesian rattan by skilled wicker makers. Sika-Design uses carefully selected rattan for furniture production to ensure the highest quality. Rattan is often compared to bamboo, but unlike bamboo which is hollow, rattan is a solid material.

    Rattan is a remarkably strong and indestructible material, and therefore you get a unique piece of design furniture that can last for generations.

    Arne Jacobsen

    This furniture is designed by Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) who is one of Denmark's most renowned architects. He is well-known for the iconic total architectural designs that he created from the 1930s onwards where he, in addition to the building project itself, also supplied designs for furniture, textiles, lamps, glass, cutlery, clocks, bathroom fixtures, door handles, etc.

    But already as a student in the 1920s Arne Jacobsen gained international recognition for his first furniture designs which was made in wicker. These set the tone for his career and quickly placed him among the most visionary architects of his time.

    ICONS | Rattan

    This furniture is handcrafted in rattan, which is one of the most sustainable materials available for furniture manufacturing. Rattan is often confused with bamboo, but unlike hollow bamboo, rattan is a solid material.  This makes rattan furniture very durable, and able to last for generations.

    When steamed for 10-15 minutes, rattan can be formed by hand using old traditional manufacturing techniques and a few simple tools. Rattan comes in 600 different variants and at Sika-Design we only use the two best qualities called Tohiti and Manau. Read more about rattan here.

    MAINTENANCE Rattan requires no maintenance but can be wiped with a lightly dampened cloth if needed. Find more information about care and maintenance here.

    Our cushions

    Our cushions are developed in our Danish sewing studio to add extra comfort and fit perfectly into each piece of furniture. For our indoor cushions, we use high-quality foam that keeps its shape and ensures optimal comfort. These are presented in a selection of high-quality fabrics with a wear resistance of minimum 20.000 Martindale. Please notice: Cushions that are made to order cannot be returned.
